Alex Goyette’s Breeder sends a broke geneticist to dinner with a dog breeder who thinks he would make the perfect stud. Hope Madden finds this dark comedy horror uncomfortable, smart and often funny, with Dot-Marie Jones giving a masterful performance that holds firm even when the third act falters.
Shudder
The Cycle (2026) Review: A Cold Case Turned Creature Feature
Hope Madden reviews The Cycle, the Shudder original from The Head Hunter director Jordan Downey that turns a police procedural into a creature feature. Deborah Ann Woll brings quiet power to a forensic case with a very personal twist, and a few monster moments impress. It runs long, but Spooky Season fans after throwback cinema will find a lot to like.
Lizzie Borden Films and Fiction: Which Version Gets Her Right?
Kit Whitfield’s What’s On Shudder column puts Lizzie Borden films on trial, from Lizzie on Shudder to The Legend of Lizzie Borden 1975 and Lizzie Borden Took An Ax. Then she turns to Angela Carter’s Lizzie Borden, told in The Fall River Axe Murders and Lizzie’s Tiger, to ask why nobody can quite pin this woman down.
Bloody Tennis Review: Nikias Chryssos Serves Up Suspiria for Athletes
Nikias Chryssos turns an elite tennis academy into a gory, darkly funny sports horror in Bloody Tennis, now on Shudder. Hope Madden finds a strong lead in Sandra Guldberg Kampp and a gleefully committed Elina Löwensohn. This Suspiria-inspired horror has plenty of blood, but not quite enough mystery to linger.
