It’s October, which means that there’s only one place for all of your movie and even TV show needs! Shudder has gone from being a cult-favourite to a mainstream hit, investing wisely in intriguing ideas for the horror genre as well as backing the good writing that can create classics.

Of course, the end of October is the most highly anticipated time for Shudder, and to welcome Halloween, the platform always rolls out a bunch of new films and shows. For Halloween 2025, these are the three films that look to headline an intense ‘Season of Screams’ for Shudder subscribers.

Night of the Reaper

The Heart and Soul of Horror Review Websites. Night of the Reaper, V/H/S/Halloween, and O.T.H.E.R Headline Shudder’s October Additions in Time for Halloween

Launched in the middle of September, Night of the Reaper delves into the surprisingly underutilised concept of Death as a real entity in horror. Sporting the hood and the skeletal fact, this tight 90-minute flick harkens back to classic stalker movies, with the central lines following the unlucky babysitter and a local sheriff hunting a murderer.

It’s immediately eye-catching despite how well-known the headline supernatural being is. The Grim Reaper has been a concept in popular culture for centuries, and yet, there’s very little by way of recent modern films that plays into the entity’s presence beyond, perhaps, the Final Destination series. Other corners of entertainment have delved into the character, though.

You could look to the many hit songs that do so, like Black Sabbath’s eponymous track, Creeping Death by Metallica, or The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult. As well as these, in the newer medium of online slots, Death is a much more utilised character. For October 2025, the new game The Grim Reaper hit the digital libraries to appease horror fans. Like Night of the Reaper, it leans into the unrelenting power of Death and sets a distinctly spooky, eerie atmosphere for the game.

V/H/S/Halloween

V/H/S is one of the best-known modern horror film series, but it’d be fair to say that the anthologies haven’t always been overly strong in their execution. Across the seven films, the first, second, and V/H/S/94 stand out, but now, there’s a new, highly backed contender to the throne.

V/H/S/Halloween, which landed on Shudder in early October, features five shorts within the overarching mini horror flick between the tapes. As was aptly stated in the Roger Ebert review, this collection may be the most consistent of the series, both tonally and in terms of the quality of the shorts.

O.T.H.E.R

Brought to Shudder by the brilliant French director behind MadS, O.T.H.E.R offers a macabre look at one woman’s bout of domestic paranoia as she looks to relive her glorious past in the home of her deceased mother. Receiving warnings from the incredible surveillance system and her neighbours, Alice begins to discover a dark presence.

Many who saw it on its festival run are touting O.T.H.E.R as a sleeper hit, which may have convinced Shudder to snap it up from its original VOD release plans. Now a Shudder Original, the Olga Kurylenko psychological horror is bound to have subscribers squirming from the moment it releases in mid-October and through to Halloween night.

To really live it up from the sofa at this spooky time of year, get a Shudder subscription and add Night of the Reaper, V/H/S/Halloween, and O.T.H.E.R to your watch list!
