UK Indie Horror Chapter Moves to the South East
Serving readers of horror and dark fiction, the Chapter 2: Canterbury Horror Tales book convention will take place at Westgate Hall, Canterbury, on 29 March 2025. The free-to-attend event involves over 30 indie authors from the UK and Europe, and offers visitors an engaging and entertaining experience.
Organised by the UK Indie Horror Chapter, a collective of independent horror writers, the event is designed to deliver more than a book sale, and features a programme of additional attractions. Readers can not only meet and chat with the authors, but can also enjoy a host of other activities including readings, discussion panels, Q&A sessions and more.
Chapter 2: Canterbury Horror Tales follows on from the successful launch event, Chapter 1: Birmingham Book Con.
Held in August at the Night Owl in Digbeth, the event brought together more than 20 authors for a day of entertainment and horror-related activities, attracting visitors from across the UK and Europe. During the day, Kev Harrison read from Shadow of the Hidden, followed by Stephen Barnard reading an excerpt from Grievers’ Wood. Two discussion panels proved popular with visitors. The first addressed Body Horror, and featured Matthew Cash, David Watkins, CS Jones and TC Parker. The second panel brought together DE McCluskey, MJ Mars, Ashley L Lister, Peter Caffrey and Graeme Reynolds to discuss Horror and Humour.
Chapter 1: Birmingham Book Con also included a popular pre-loved book exchange. Visitors were encouraged to bring a wrapped, pre-loved book, and on leaving the venue took a random mystery book in exchange.
During the event, prize-based attractions were held to raise money for charity, supporting the local branch of Resources for Autism. These included a raffle for original artwork and a Sweary Sweepstake.
Comments from visitors included:
‘Thanks so much to everyone for making this happen—I loved every minute.’
‘What an incredible event!’
‘Thank you for a wonderful day in Brum.’
‘I feel like I’ve gained a weird, loving, wonderful family!’
Chapter 2: Canterbury Horror Tales will build on the success of Chapter 1: Birmingham Book Con, providing an accessible and interactive event to deliver engaging and entertaining elements for readers of horror and dark fiction.
