Horror Not Hate: An anti-fascist, anti-hate anthology of horror comics and art supporting LGBTQIA+ and Immigrant rights!
Horror Not Hate is a strike back against all this. Slow Feet Comics has brought a collection of diverse talent from both the comics world, and the greater arts and entertainment world at large, together in order to say, “This is madness. It needs to stop. We need to help the vulnerable.”
Let’s be real. The news these days is its own kind of horror story. The kind that doesn’t end when you close the cover. For writer J.M. Brandt, that daily dread became a physical thing, a sickness he had to do something about. His wife told him to get off his ass and fight back. So he did, using the tools he had: horror stories and a network of wildly creative friends. The result is Horror Not Hate, a thunderclap of a comic book anthology that’s launching its Kickstarter campaign right now to do some tangible good in a world that desperately needs it.
This isn’t just another collection of scary tales. Think of it as a weapon, forged in the fiery pits of the horror, comic, and heavy metal communities. The mission is direct: all proceeds after printing and shipping will be split right down the middle between two vital organizations, Lambda Legal, defending LGBTQIA+ rights, and CHIRLA, the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights. You get a terrifying book, your money fights real-world monsters. Simple as that.
The lineup of creators is frankly staggering. They’ve pulled in heavyweights from every corner of the storytelling world. We’re talking Stoker and Shirley Jackson Award-winner Tim Waggoner, which is a huge get for any horror project. The writer roster also includes names like David M. Booher (Ghostbusters), Joshua Pruett (The Last Kids on Earth), and Riley Silverman (Doctor Who). These stories take aim at the real horrors: fascism, transphobia, homophobia, xenophobia, the whole ugly spectrum.
But here’s the kicker, it’s not just a comic book. The response from artists was so overwhelming the project blew past its original scope. Now, it’s a hybrid. Over 200 pages of comics, yes, but also a full-blown art gallery with contributions from over 50 visual artists. You’ve got masters of comic art like Francesca Fantini and Rafael Navarro bringing the stories to life. Then you’ve got iconic artists from the metal world like Skinner, who’s done art for Mastodon, and Evil Jay. Fine art, lowbrow art, outsider art, t’s a chaotic, beautiful, terrifying visual feast.
Of course you want to know about the covers. They’ve got multiple, each a statement piece. Chad J. Keith, known for his work with the band Mastodon, brings a reaper draped in red, white, and blue. The enigmatic Skinner offers a psychedelic, monster-filled vision. And in a brilliant move, they’re offering one incredibly lucky backer a 1-of-1 reward: the chance to choose the fourth cover from the interior art gallery. That’s a unique piece of publishing history.
There are at least 4 different covers for Horror Not Hate.
Chad J. Keith (Mastodon collaboration, Creepshow) brings us a reaper done up in red, white, and blue in case you forgot where we are trying to do the most good. Known for his prolific output of skulls and neon, Chad’s cover keeps the best parts of him and departs in interesting and meaningful ways.

Jonathan La Mantia has another nightmare in red– serving as another cover. La Mantia is a horror and metal artist (Heavy Metal Magazine, Demonsmoke) known for their intricate linework depicting a heady blend of cosmic and body horror. If Lovecraft could have drawn, his nightmares would have likely resembled a La Mantia Tuesday. Jonathan also designed the Horror Not Hate logo for Slow Feet Comics.

The mononymous marvel known as Skinner has an unimpeachable track record in the metal, horror, and low-brow art world. The artist behind album covers for Mastodon and High On Fire, who recently finished up his stop-motion feature film debut in Shrine of Abominations and released a board game in Realm Runners, contributes to both the art gallery (as seen in the ‘The Art Gallery’ section) and to the covers. The cover is peak Skinner: psychedelic, oddly accessible, and chock-full of monsters!

A video chat is available with Joshua Pruett, Emmy Award-winning and NYT Best-Selling writer for Mystery Science Theater 3000, Phineas and Ferb, The Last Kids on Earth, and Hamster and Gretel. Joshua contributed the story, “Finger Guns”. A video chat with J.M. Brandt is also available.
Commissions from contributing artists, including Caleb Ady and Francesca Fantini, are available. To avoid them being snatched up immediately, we will be adding commission slots as the campaign goes on.
Signed memorabilia, prints, and ORIGINAL ART are all available. These include Magic: The Gathering artist proof cards signed (and in the case of Matt Stikker, sketched), a signed LP of the 2025 release The Teeth of Time from Matt Stikker’s black metal band, Drouth, signed copies of Skinner’s nutso comics mag Skincrawl, copies of Sean Äaberg’s fantastic role-playing game Dungeon Degenerates, and more.
For add-ons, they are going hard. They have t-shirts featuring art from the HNH gallery, posters, art prints window decals, pins, bottle openers, bookmarks, stickers, and even canvas patches!
Stretch Goals
25K – All physical backers will receive a special die-cut sticker. We will unlock special flag-branded versions of the Horror Not Hate logo as t-shirts and stickers.
30K – We will unlock a new reward tier: the ability to select a super limited FIFTH cover for Horror Not Hate.
35K – GUARANTEE a 2nd volume of Horror Not Hate will be produced starting in 2026.
40K – All physical backers will receive a brass-colored Horror Not Hate challenge coin that will only be available for original backers of the campaign and never sold elsewhere. Late pledges will not receive the challenge coin.
More stretch goals will be announced!
The Kickstarter, which launched on December 29th, is packed with rewards that go beyond the book itself. We’re talking original art commissions, signed memorabilia, video chats with the writers, and a ton of add-ons like shirts and posters. They’ve also laid out some tempting stretch goals to guarantee a second volume and produce exclusive challenge coins for backers.
It’s a project that proves horror isn’t about escapism. Not this time. It’s about confrontation. It’s about a community that has always welcomed the outsiders and the marginalized now using its unique voice to shout back. Horror Not Hate is the answer to that sick feeling in your gut when you read the headlines. You can just be sick about it, or you can get off your ass and help make something powerful. This book is for the helpers.
